Abstract

George Wells Beadle was born in 1903 and died in 1989. During his lifetime, the science of genetics changed dramatically. Beadle contributed definitively to that change. Perhaps more than that of any other investigator, his work prepared the way for the transition from neoclassical to molecular genetics. His contributions were recognized with a Nobel Prize and many other high honors.
